Direct operated valves

Direct operated valves

incorporate a temperature sensor inside the valve, and operate independently of external power supplies.

Electrically operated valves

Electrically operated valves

are powered by an external electric actuator, with control provided by a separate electronic control unit, and temperature sensing by resistance thermometer.

Pneumatically operated valves

Pneumatically operated valves

are powered by an external pneumatic actuator, with control provided by a pneumatic controller with external temperature sensing.

Gas operated valves

Gas operated valves

are designed to control refrigerant gas pressures – and hence the temperature of refrigerated or air-conditioned areas – in marine systems in which the condenser is cooled by sea water.

Air conditioning system for fast ferries

Walton's 200mm gas operated valves regulate the air conditioning on a fleet of ferries for Superfast Ferries which were built to provide services between Greece and Italy, and also between Germany and Finland & Sweden. Some of these vessels have since been sold and are now serving other routes. Of varying sizes up to 204m, the largest of these vessels can carry up to 1595 passengers.

Air conditioning system for fast ferriesThe gas operated valves on these vessels regulate the pressure of the refrigerant gas in the air conditioning system by automatically adjusting the flow of sea water coolant through the condenser. This in turn controls the temperature of the air-conditioned areas, thus maintaining the highest levels of comfort on board whether the environment is the cold of the Baltic winter or the heat of the Adriatic summer.
